A negative mental bias is an idea in evolutionary psychology that people have a tendency to look for the negative in what is happening around them more than the positive. This is because our ancestors had to be constantly alert for danger back in the cave-man days.

Our brains still have the tendency to be constantly alert for danger, which means we will notice negative things more than positive ones.
