The git and github technology

Git is simple, flexible and easily shareable by various project or team participants.

Designed for speed, Git minimizes resources related to product and Web development — even with massive projects. For example, rather than starting a project from scratch, a developer can retrieve and change stored codes to maximize efficiency.

Having been writing little codes independently on my own, I didn’t find any need to use Git or any version controlling tool, simply because I knew a little about how it works and its power, but having worked with this technology for about two weeks, I can now see its importance and its power.

Some times people tend to confuse git and github, github is simply a code hosting platform that is built on git technology, it allows you to push your local code base to an online/remote server for easy team collaboration.

Github will help you perform version control in a very sophisticated manner.

Hence, Github reduces redundancy in version control and helps you to keep your project folder clean and well-managed, and allows rolling back to previous versions flexibly.

Benefits of using Git as a developer

The version control system has the following benefits:

• You have access to all versions of all files in Git repository at any time, it’s almost impossible to lose any part of a code.

• Multiple developers can work on one project at the same time without interfering with each other, and without fear of losing any changes made by a colleague. In Git, the possibilities of collaborative work are unlimited.

You will have to use Git every day, and this is a tool you should have a perfect command of.

Be sure to sign up on GitHub or Bitbucket. These services offer great manuals on how to start working with remote repositories. I like bitbucket for the possibility of creating unlimited number of private repositories. However, in terms of all other characteristics, GitHub is way ahead of bitbucket, and has turned into the standard and base of the whole open source community.
