3 movies starring Tom Hanks that changed my life

A well-crafted movie is like a finely aged wine — a drinker will never shy away from chugging it down his throat. Similarly, movie buffs like me will never miss an opportunity to drown themselves in the mesmerizing ocean of bliss that a good movie has to offer.

Ok, let’s get straight to the point — Tom Hanks is and will always remain my favorite actor. I can cite multiple reasons for this. First- his ingenuity as an actor is what compels me to watch his movies and second- he hasn’t created an aura of invincibility around him which a majority of actors create around them to shield themselves from the backlash they are bound to receive on delivering a shitty performance.

Every character that he has portrayed over the years — from the marginally intelligent Forrest Gump to the dutiful and responsible Captain Miller has captivated me and gave my otherwise dull and meaningless life new meanings.

Forrest Gump — My favorite movie of all time, I was blown away when I had the opportunity to watch it back in the year 2010. The story revolves around a man with a low IQ — a simpleton who could visualize the world as no other could.
This film taught me to be humble in life and treat everyone alike. Friendships are what gives life its meaning and there is no friendship like Forrest and Buba. Even after Buba’s death in the Vietnam war, Forrest kept his promise of starting a shrimp company.
In spite of earning millions, he gave away most of his wealth for the betterment of others. Being simple and selfless in this chaotic world is what one should aspire to be and this film teaches you the same.

Saving Private Ryan — Set in the year 1944 during the American invasion of Normandy, this movie compels its viewers to experience an actual war-like scenario and the horror associated with it.
This Steven Spielberg masterpiece is a treat to watch with its bone-chilling scenes and a captivating storyline. Tom Hanks as Captain John H. Miller was amazing as usual but other actors too did an amazing job.
The story of how eight men risk their lives to save Private Ryan (played by Matt Damon) and help him get back to his home, to his mother whose three other sons were killed in action injects a strong sense of responsibility and duty in the mind of its viewers.

The Green Mile — Ok, I must admit, that this is the only movie to which I cried in my lifetime. The execution of a supernaturally gifted John Coffey (portrayed by Michael Clarke Duncan) irrespective of the fact that he had done nothing wrong got tears rolling down my cheeks. Tom Hanks played the role of a prison officer in charge of death row. His encounter with John Coffey and the events which followed will surely inspire the viewers to become a better person in life.

Although I watch all Tom Hanks movies with equal zeal, these three movies stand out to be my all-time favorite. It is my personal opinion folks and I would be happy if you guys could name some of your favorite Tom Hanks movies in the comments section.

I LOVE YOU, TOM HANKS
